School of Management

Being focused on the development strategies to take people as the foremost, to be integrated and open, to serve the industry and serve the local, the School of Management at Chengdu University of Information Technology has devoted itself into the professional discipline development and the improvement of education quality. Now the School of Management offers 7 Bachelor’s Degree programs in Information Management and Information System, Engineering Management, Human Resource Management, Tourism Management, Exhibition Economy and Management, Public Administration, Labor and Social Security; covers 4 types of majors in Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Tourism Management, and Public Administration. It has Master’s degrees in first-level discipline of Management Science and Engineering, 5 Ph.D. degrees in Disaster Management Engineering, Project Management, Information Resource Management, Tourism Management Engineering, Organizational Innovation and Knowledge Management and Master’s Degree in Agriculture: Agricultural Technology Organization and Service. It also features 3 teaching programs in Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and Emergency Management, Rural Tourism and Human Resources Development, and Public Weather Services.

The School has established the Research Center of Meteorological Disaster Forecasting and Warning and Emergency Management, a key humanities & social sciences research base of Universities in Sichuan province; the Sichuan Tourism Information Research Base, a pioneer and key scientific research base authorized by the Tourism Bureau of Sichuan Province; and the Science and Education Base cooperated between School of Management at Chengdu University of Information and Engineering and the Institute of Digital China at Peking University. The School provides research institutions such as Digital Research Center of Disaster Information, Research Institution of Tourism and Cultural Industry Development, Research Institution of Human Resources and Psychology Application, Research Institution of Strategic Planning and Management, Institution of Urban and Rural Planning and Systems Engineering, Innovation Management Research Center of China-France Social Security and Services, Research Center of Empirical Management. Laboratories have been set up as follows: Laboratory of Information Management and Information System, Laboratory of Engineering Management, E-government Laboratory, Practice Center of Tourism and Exhibition Simulation Management, Laboratory of Human Resources and Psychology Application, in which student can realize self-management under supervision of teachers. This open experiment management mode provides experimental guarantees for student to carry on their professional courses, various academic competitions and innovation practices.

The School has trained a reasonably structured, dynamic and high-quality faculty, 54% of whom have senior posts like professor and associate professor, 38% of whom have Doctoral Degrees, and 92.4% of who have master’s degrees or above. There are also over 30 leading experts outside the university engaged as part-time and visiting professors in our School.

In the past five years, the School has achieved great success with commitment to serving the local economic development, forecasting and warning meteorological disasters, emergency disaster management, tourism, social security and services, bring in great contributions to promoting the modern service industry of Sichuan Province and the local economic development. We have managed and participated in more than 20 academic projects including Natural Science Foundation of China, National Social Science Fund of China, and humanities & Social Sciences projects of China’s Ministry of Education; we have managed over 30 provincial-ministerial-level projects, over 40 provincial-departmental-level projects, and over 100 lateral projects; we also have more than 50 literatures and textbooks published and over 700 theses issued. The scientific achievements of the School have been awarded ten research prizes such as provincial-ministerial-level Scientific and Technological Progress Award and Outstanding Achievement Award of Sichuan Philosophy and Social Science.

The School has built long-tern academic exchange and cooperation relationships with related domestic and foreign research institutions. In the “Management Forum” established in our school, leading experts in and out of China are regularly invited to make seminars and exchanges in our school, and every year outstanding teachers of our school are sent out for academic exchange activities such as teaching and scientific research. Since 2005, our University and Germany’s Friedrich Ebert Foundation have kept in cooperation, carrying out multi-perspective, multi-field and continuing research projects with an emphasis on the ecological protection and management of eco-fragile areas along upper Yangtze River. The project results have received the approval from Friedrich Ebert Foundation and commendation from Sichuan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

To strengthen the combination of production, teaching and research, the School has built practice bases in collaboration with more than 40 enterprises and public institutions such as the General Information Center of Sichuan Rural Economy, the Tourism Information Center of Tourism Bureau of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Talent Exchange Center, Chengdu Social Security Office, the Employment Agency of Longquanyi District and the Morriott International Inc. We have established distinctive professional practice teaching system by regularly conducting institution-locality cooperation conferences every year.

The joint training program called “Morriott Class” and developed in cooperation with Morriott International Inc. is aimed to cultivate customized and high-end hotel management talents and has received favorable results. The School actively expands cooperation with universities and institutions abroad, in order to create better overseas training environment for students. For now, more than ten students have been to the United States of America for study and internship, such as San Diego State University and Disney Park.

With commitment to serving the society and future, integrating theory and practice, and cultivating a new generation of management talents, the School gains a high employment rate of over 90% in recent years, with our graduates receiving wide approval and good reputation from employers. We also have growing excellent graduates who are self-employed or admitted by famous domestic and overseas universities.
